Achilles tendinopathy is an unfortunately common complaint seen in our clinic. Achilles tendon pain is usually due to small tears in the tendon which can develop over time. This may occur due to a single incident of over-stretching or straining the tendon.  General overuse where the tendon becomes worn and damaged can be another cause.

Several factors can contribute to the development of Achilles Tendinitis. These can include poor footwear, a sudden increase in training, training on hard or uneven surfaces, poor foot bio-mechanics and weight gain. Achilles symptoms can include pain in the achilles tendon, heel or lower calf. Tenderness to pressure and redness and swelling are also common. There may be difficulty rising up onto your toes, particularly when standing on only one leg. Early physiotherapy treatment for this problem is vital. The longer it is left, the more difficult it can be to resolve. Full rehabilitation is important to achieve an optimum outcome and prevent reoccurrence. Your physiotherapist can not only treat your issue, we will also be able to help you with the reason for it, and give you the tools to avoid re-injury.

David has been integrating Acupuncture into his treatment regimes for over a decade. He has focused his studies on Japanese Meridian Therapy due to its gentle superficial needling and other non-insertional therapies like Polarity Therapy and Moxibustion.

He will often use acupuncture to help treat the pain associated with achilles tendinopathy.
